Born in Boston, he later studied at the New England Conservatory and the NOA in New York. He was chosen by Leopold Stokowski as his Choral Master/Associate Conductor with the Symphony of the Air. This success led to the position of Chorus Master of the American Opera Center at Juilliard, Music Director of the Majorca and Saragossa Symphonies in Spain followed by the Norwalk Symphony in the USA. Maestro Morss has guest conducted the Madrid, Barcelona, Marseille, Cape Town Symphonies, Tampa Bay Opera, New York Lyric Opera, NGO. In 1976, he conducted the American Premiere of Massenet’s Marie Magdeleine with Regine Crespin in Avery Fisher Hall. He led the 1978 Tosca production of the Marseille Opera with Marton, Aragall and Wixell. At Tully Hall in 1990, he conducted a concert version of Fidelio with original instruments, the first such performance of standard repertory opera in New York. Maestro Morss was appointed Verismo Opera’s Music Director and Principal Conductor in 1995 and retired at the end of 2015.
