This Canadian soprano who is an English Major, holds both a Dramatic Arts degree and a four octave range made the switch from a very successful rock ‘n roll and nightclub singer to grand opera. She has acquired a repertoire of more than 30 roles that include La Boheme (both roles) Tosca, Isabeau, Madama Butterfly, I Pagliacci in the verismo repertoire, the romantics of La Traviata, and Faust to the rare bel canto stylings of Maria Stuarda, Anna Bolena, La Sonnambula, and Lucia di Lammermoor. Also included in her repertoire is Britten’s War Requiem and the U.S. premier of Gounod’s La Reine de Saba. Ms. la Quaif is an accomplished stage and television actress, with ten years classical ballet training. She has appeared in all concert halls such as Weill Recital, Carnegie, and Alice Tully in New York as well as Vienna and Palermo and most major Canadian houses. Evelyn teaches singing (both pop and opera) and coaches at her Manhattan home. As a Stage Director her acting forte and attention to creating intensely, intimate characterizations has put her in great demand on the opera stage. Her recent successes include Lucia, Cav/Pag, Boheme, Elisir, Traviata, Merry Widow, Butterfly, Tosca, and many others. As an opera singer her passion on stage has often been compared to the great Callas.
